You will be notified on October 4 whether you will be making an oral or poster presentation. You will be notified by October 20 with final details (room numbers, abstract number, etc.)

1.0 Acknowledgements

We are very pleased to have you as an active member of the WCHRI community. WCHRI is supported by the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. Without their generous support, our institute would be unable to continue to support the work done by you and your colleagues.

It is imperative that you acknowledge funding of your research. All research projects funded by or receiving subsidized research services from WCHRI must acknowledge the support of WCHRI and the appropriate Foundation, including the use the WCHRI and Foundation logo(s) on your poster or presentation slides. Please refer to the abstract submission guidelines for additional information on acknowledgements.

If you are presenting work not directly supported by WCHRI, we still invite you to include the WCHRI and relevant Foundation logo(s) as this Research Day would not be possible without the support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation.

2.0 Oral presentations

You will have ten minutes for your presentation and five minutes to answer questions. A moderator and two judges will be in the audience. Be aware that you will have a diverse audience including other trainees, faculty, and representatives from the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation and/or the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. We suggest you tailor your presentation to this mixed audience. In general, you should aim for 10 to 15 slides.

3.0 Poster presentations

Formal poster presentations and judging will be offered in two sessions: one in the morning (9–10 a.m.) and one in the afternoon (1:45–2:45 p.m.). Those presenting in the morning should bring their poster the morning of November 6 for set-up from 7–7:45 a.m. Posters must be removed during the lunch break prior to the keynote address.

Those presenting in the afternoon session must put their posters up during lunch prior to the keynote address.

Poster boards and pins will be provided.

You must be at your poster for the duration of the session as the judges will come to your poster independently. You will be visited by two judges who may have either a Foundation representative or a trainee with them. If you have not been visited by two judges by 15 minutes prior to the session end, let one of the WCHRI representatives know. You will have six minutes in total with the judges, four minutes to walk them through your poster and two minutes for questions and answers. Note that in general, the judges will be expecting your responses to questions to be understandable by a non-academic audience.

Your poster size should be as close to the standard scientific poster size as possible, 48w x 36h inches (122 x 91 cm), but you may use a poster from a previous meeting.
